Objective
The City of Stockholm has set ambitious environmental and accessibility goals. Examples of efforts to reach the goals are the introduction of zero emission zones and a reduction of car traffic by 30%. A high degree of digitisation and data sharing is required to implement and evaluate the effects of the efforts.
Use Case
Implementing and monitoring zero emission zones and reduction of car traffic
Cluster: Data for mobility planning
The use case aims to enhance evaluation of Stockholm’s zero-emission zone by integrating and sharing high-quality data through the Stockholm Mobility Data Space (SMDS).
- Data integration: Combining and enhancing existing datasets and collecting new data for comprehensive analysis.
- Enabling data sharing: Facilitating access to data through the SMDS and the broader European Mobility Data Space (EMDS).
- Supporting decision making: Using aggregated data to support evidence-based environmental policy decisions and improving data discoverability.
By powering the SMDS, this use case focuses on aggregating and sharing high-quality data to assess and refine the zero-emission zone, ultimately supporting better environmental policymaking and improved data accessibility.
Background:
The City of Stockholm has established a zero-emission zone regulation effective from December 31, 2024, aimed at creating a safer, quieter, and more environmentally friendly area in the city centre. While ambitious environmental goals and numerous datasets related to mobility and environment exist, these datasets are fragmented and lack standardisation, with many not yet integrated into a data space. Additionally, crucial data necessary for comprehensive evaluation of the zero-emission zone is either not being collected or not available in a usable format, requiring further data inventory and collection efforts.
